Rosie Tarku King intricately portrays the intricate ecosystem of her desert homeland in a detailed map of her Country in this artwork. The intense heat of the desert is reflected in vibrant reds and pinks, balanced by blue circles indicating jila (living waterholes) and jumu (soakages) – crucial sources of life-giving water. Salt lakes are depicted in peach, bordered by a faint blue line representing their diminishing waters, and red sand dunes undulate in various shades of pink.
Tarku King describes the work,
‘You can see salt lakes dry without water, some jilas and little billabongs with water, sand hills, red sands, dry grass and trees.’
