Runway Art

April 08, 2024

It’s all happening at AGWA. Tomorrow a Pulsefest is unleashed at the Gallery and Design Store.

Pulsefest 2024 forms part of the programming for The West Australian Pulse 2024, which showcases the extraordinary 60 works of Year 12 Visual Arts graduates. Running from 6 April until 6 October 2024, the exhibition celebrates the young artists who allow us to consider what is meaningful to them and important for the future of our society.

On Saturday, WA’s hottest fashion students and talented creatives will collaborate to deliver the very best that emerging design can offer in two cutting edge fashion shows on the AGWA Rooftop.

In a WA first, fashion and design talent from ECU and Curtin Universities and North Metro and South Metro TAFE will join forces on one catwalk, celebrating the designers who are set to take the fashion industry by storm.

A second fashion show featuring a collaboration between AGWA Design Store and Second Life Markets will follow, with young creatives working alongside industry mentors to deliver fashion-forward upcycled designs.

The first show kicks off at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

As part of the AGWA Design Store’s commitment to support emerging designers, our Design Store will be celebrating the works of fashion students and recent graduates during Pulse 2024.

Our Design Store curators have been working with students at North Metropolitan TAFE on a knitwear collaboration to create beanies. Each beanie has been lovingly crafted by a NM TAFE fashion diploma student on a knitting machine. Students were briefed to produce a striped beanie that responds to the work of Australian rockstar knitwear label, WAH-WAH Australia. Each beanie is made with 100% Australian wool and on sale at the Design Store. Proceeds will go the students’ end of year runway show.

Come past and view our Design Store windows to see the handy work of Curtin University's 2023 fashion graduates. The students created toiles as part of their R&D process to refine innovative designs before presenting their collections. Toiles, originating in mid-18th Century Ireland, serve as early garment versions, testing patterns for fit and aesthetics, typically made from inexpensive cotton calico.
