Published to accompany the exhibition Tim Burns — The Kinetic Moment at The Art Gallery of Western Australia, this illustrated catalogue explores the life and work of the restless, innovative, and eccentric artist, Tim ‘3rd Degree’ Burns (born Cunderdin, 1947).
Spanning more than six decades of practice, the publication considers Burns’s experimental approach to his early paintings and sculptures in Perth, his contributions to the development of performance art in Sydney and his involvement in No Wave underground and experimental filmmaking in New York, tracing a unique practice that challenges convention, reinvents itself and blurs the boundaries between art and life. Variously ad-hoc, D-I-Y and low-tech, Burns's works have largely remained outside of the mainstream, until now.
