Over a career spanning more than five decades, Western Australian ceramic artist Pippin Drysdale has created a distinctive body of work that translates the colours, forms and vastness of the Australian landscape into vessels of remarkable beauty.
Pippin Drysdale: Infinite terrainemerged from a major retrospective exhibition at The Art Gallery of Western Australia. The publication combines a rich visual survey of her career with the research, scholarship and insights generated through the exhibition project. It traces her development as an artist of international renown, examining how journeys through some of Australia's most remote environments and abroad inspired the vibrant surfaces and innovative glaze techniques for which she is best known.
Featuring new essays by Grace Cochrane, renowned Australian writer and curator specialising in craft and design; Alun Graves, Senior Curator of Ceramics and Glass 1900-present at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; and Isobel Wise, AGWA Associate Curator of Contemporary Art and exhibition curator, Pippin Drysdale: Infinite terrain places Drysdale's ceramics within both Australian and international contexts while highlighting her significant contribution to contemporary ceramic practice. An interview between Wise, Drysdale and Warrick Palmateer explores the collaborative partnership behind her celebrated work.
