The Piping Shrike is the bird emblem of South Australia and is easily recognisable by its black and white plumage.
While the bird is officially labelled as a Piping Shrike by the creators of the emblem, it is rumoured to be based on a Magpie lark, Australian magpie or White-backed magpie.
