In June 2024, Winsall travelled from Boorloo, Australia, to Bangkok, Thailand in order to receive gender confirmation surgery, also known as 'bottom' surgery. Buoyed by a community fundraising event in November of 2023, she underwent this journey alone. Over 140 pages, Winsall lays herself bare in an attempt to bridge the divide of what cisgender people both do not, and in many ways cannot understand about transgender people and how they navigate this world. Utilising photographs taken on her Minolta film camera, writings, and content from the author's private Instagram story, Winsall shares her experiences in the hopes that others may see our shared humanity.
Winsall is a transgender artist who works primarily in film photography. Her photographs capture serene, private moments that offer a refreshed appreciation for urban environments. Her photographic style posses a calming quality, exhibiting her attention to the small, transient details of life.
