Sabiha Çimen - Hafiz

Exhibiting artist in AGWA’s No night is long enough for us to dream twice, Sabiha Çimen offers an intimate view into the lives of young women attending Quran schools in Turkey in her debut photobook, Hafiz.

Çimen, who attended a Quran school herself, returned as a photographer to document students across five schools over three years. Moving between moments of study, friendship, play and contemplation, her photographs reveal the everyday experiences and dreams of girls undertaking the demanding process of memorising the Quran. The title Hafiz refers to a person who has memorised all 604 pages of the Quran.
