This artwork represents Kaakurutintjinya (Lake Macdonald), a vast salt lake located along the border of the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Fine white dots trace across a deep ochre background, capturing the shimmer of light on salt and the rhythmic form of red tali (sand dunes) surrounding the lake.
According to Tjukurrpa (Dreaming) narratives, a group of Tingari Men—both elders and initiates—travelled to this place from the west, where they met their end in a fierce hailstorm. The Tingari, ancestral beings, journeyed through the landscape performing rituals that shaped Country. Their stories remain central to Pintupi culture, guiding law, ceremony, and learning for future generations.
