About the Artist

Wendy Hubert is a respected Yindjibarndi Elder, cultural custodian, artist, and linguist. Born at Red Hill Station on Guruma Country, she has lived and worked across the Pilbara, eventually settling in Roebourne. Wendy began painting with Juluwarlu Art Group in 2019, creating vibrant landscape works that reflect her childhood memories and significant places across Yindjibarndi and Guruma Country.

Her artistic achievements include selection for the 2023 Telstra NATSIAA and the 26th Sydney Biennale, with exhibitions across WA and Australia. In December 2024, Wendy published her autobiography alongside a retrospective of her paintings, sharing her life story and deep cultural knowledge.

Encouraged by the positive reception of her book, Wendy is now working on new projects for 2025 and 2026, including an international commission for the 2025 Japanese Triennial and a Pilbara garden project for the 2026 Sydney Biennale.

“I know my Ngurra. I know its Laws. I am a Yindjibarndi Custodian, old now, but strong in my thinking and my life.” — Wendy Hubert, 2021
