AGWA x Ikuntji Artists Cushion Cover 65 x 65cm - Tjilkamala Rockholes (Blue)

Ikuntji Artists was the first art centre established for women of the Western Desert Art Movement and champions the production of First Nations textiles. AGWA Design Store is excited to collaborate with Ikuntji Artists, based in the Northern Territory, to create a unique range of cushion covers utilising a diverse range of striking screen prints by local artists. Ikuntji also managed the entire production process resulting in beautiful and culturally resonant pieces celebrating Ikuntji’s inherent artistry.

Alice Nampitjinpa Dixon's creation portrays Takupalangu, located west of Kintore. This area is Uta Uta Tjangala's ancestral land, a subject he depicted consistently. Nampitjinpa captures her father's terrain of rockholes and sandhills, abundant with bushtucker like mangilpa seeds. The road to Kiwirrkurra runs alongside Takupalangu. Alice vividly recalls her father's country, a vast swamp teeming with bush vegetables called mungilpa, and how her family foraged there during her childhood. Hand-screened by Published Textiles and Papers, the fabric ensures peak quality and durability.
