Twana’s Box brings together a selection from the remarkable photographic archive of Twana Abdullah, documenting the Kurdistan region of Iraq between 1974 and 1992. Pieced together over many years by his son, photographer Rawsht Twana, the book is at once a record of a transformed time and place, a search for a father lost to a military regime, and an exploration of family, identity and memory amid war and displacement. Rawsht’s work preserving his father’s negatives and stories ultimately led him to photography himself, including work with Metrography, Iraq’s first independent photography agency, before immigrating to Europe.
