Often overlooked collectively, these artists individually employ their backgrounds or identities as material, frequently in challenging or rebellious ways. In this catalogue, each artist contributes a 16-page artist's book delving into aspects of their practice, sometimes collaborating with other artists, writers, or designers like Karl Holmqvist, Phùng Vo, Galit Eilat, Vic Pereiró, An Art Service, Federica Bueti, and T.J. Demos. Contributions vary from purely visual to entirely textual, featuring new essays, ghostwritten letters, legal notices, and cinematic diaries. An accompanying collection of works offers a visual exploration of past projects and related items, creating an associative dialogue between the artists' creations. Additionally, curator Bartholomew Ryan's essay interweaves their diverse approaches, positioning them within the broader context of contemporary art and our intricate world.
