Yindjibarndi believe that all creation is etched into the landscape, with sacred meanings and deep religious significance. At Ngurra Nyujunggamu, the dawn of time, the world was soft and the sky low. Minkala, the Creator, sang the songs from which all life and Ngurra emerged. These are some of those stories.
Vividly illustrated by Alex Mankiewicz with striking artwork from the Juluwarlu Art Group, When the World Was Soft is a cultural treasure for all ages.
Based in Roebourne and Ngurrawaana Community, the Juluwarlu Group Aboriginal Corporation works to preserve and promote Yindjibarndi knowledge—our Ngurra, language, genealogy, mythology, and history—to sustain our identity and inspire future generations to contribute to the wider Australian community.
