Featured in AGWA’s No night is long enough for us to dream twice, Abdulhamid Kircher explores identity, patriarchy, generational trauma and reconciliation in Rotting from Within, a deeply personal photographic account of his relationship with his estranged father.
Beginning with their reconnection when Kircher was seventeen, the project moves between Berlin and Turkey, using photography as a means of navigating family history and his German-Turkish heritage. Bringing together portraiture, observation, archival material and diaries, Kircher considers inherited trauma, masculinity and violence alongside intimacy, memory and the complexities of understanding those closest to us.
