Salman Toor New Paintings and Drawings

Pakistani American painter Salman Toor is known for his sumptuous and moody figurative work, taking influence from European old masters, early modernists and impressionism. Salman Toor New Paintings and Drawings book showcases the artist’s recent work and exploration of contemporary public and private life in context of queer and diasporic identity.

Contributing to the growing scholarship on Salman Toor’s practice and his contribution to contemporary Art,this book includes essays ‘Drawing is being born’ by Creative Lead for the Simon Lee foundation Rachel Ciesla and ‘Beyond Definition’ by Anna Arabindan-Kesson, Senior research fellow at AGWA and associate professor of black diasporic art at Princeton University.

Presenting a rich palette of Salman’s paintings and works on paper with his unique stylised realism using charcoal, gouache, ink and pencil, New Paintings and Drawings is produced alongside M-Woods recent exhibition on the artist, curated by M-Woods Artistic and executive director Victor Wang. An engaging conversation exchange between Victor and Salman ‘We know but cannot say,’ allows readers to read first-hand of the artist’s first show, notions of identity and culture, Salman’s connection to art movements and more.
