BODIED unites an internationally diverse group of artists who in positioning the body at the center of their being, explore how our physical forms are shaped by the social worlds around us. The project began life as an exhibition at The Art Gallery of Western Australia in 2020 which featured the work of Gordon Bennett, Cheryl Donegan, Alin Huma and Cheiko Kawaguchi, Jani Ruscica, Kawita Vatanajyankur and Wong Ping. In this book, curators Rachel Ciesla and Robert Cook present a collection of interviews with each of the exhibiting artists which explore how their practices intersect with current changing political and cultural contexts.
BODIED is the first title in the series 'Unclaimed Ideas'by the Simon Lee foundation institute of Contemporary Asian Art.. Created as a series of paperback readers, 'Unclaimed Ideas' presents essays and interviews by leading voices and undiscovered talents who change the way we understand art and its relationship to the most critical issues in the world today.
