Bettina

Bettina Grossman, a legendary New York artist of the 60s and 70s, resided in seclusion at the Chelsea Hotel from 1972 onward. Her extensive body of work, spanning over 60 years, encompassed photography, cinematography, graphic design, and conceptual sculpture. This monograph, honored with the 6th LUMA Rencontres Dummy Book Award Arles in 2020, reveals her artistic journey. Living eccentrically within the artist community, she produced a prolific collection that echoes avant-garde traditions. Her pieces transformed her studio into an immersive experience, blurring abstraction's borders. Photographer Yto Barrada's exhibition in 2019 sparked rediscovery, leading to a collaborative book effort with Gregor Huber. Despite Bettina's passing in 2021 at 94, her iconic legacy remains illuminated through this publication.
