Growing up along its shores, Javanmardi witnessed the effects of pollution, overfishing, industrial exploitation and climate change on the region. Focusing on the Iranian coastline, his photographs move between observations of everyday life and evidence of environmental decline, tracing the interconnected relationships between landscape, livelihood and community. The publication forms the first part of Javanmardi’s ongoing photographic project mapping the Caspian region.
